Collect

Thorn mirror by Peascod.

Collect is a limited edition collection that fuses Peascod’s two specialist practices, that of verre églomisé decorated glass and naturalistic bas relief sculpture.

Originating around a central idea of nature, specifically taking reference from detailed aspects of their rural Somerset location. The work carefully eschews the romanticisation that cast this space as a bucolic idyll, and is also careful not to portray a place that is simply pastoral.

Instead, the works have an edge. Thorns tangle and light scatters. Ever present is the rich pallet of oxidation and decay. This is a nature of both light and dark, of cycles of change and flux.

Collect explores various aspects of light and form, embracing the playfully illusive alongside hints of darker imagery. They are drawn to the crepuscular atmosphere of the twilight hours, and how the woodland floor is teeming with both life and decay. This is echoed in the objects they produce: the shifting, mercurial nature of the reflectors that Emma specialises in adds atmosphere and depth to Tobias’ asymmetric, bas relief.

The result is their distinctly contemporary take on the British Rococo – a style rooted in the natural world and infused with a sense of drama. Vital and captivating, lavish but with a lightness of touch, they embrace the tension between contradictory elements in their designs. Rich in atmospheric detail, capturing the spirit of the landscape through glimpses of natural form and the subtle interplay of light, a special alchemy reveals itself as each piece seems to come to life the more it is explored.
